Learn to carve your design in jewellers wax, and understand the fascinating process of how it will be cast in metal.
The process is ‘lost wax casting’ which is a very old, widely used technique and just one of many practised in jewellery making.
You will be given a demonstration on how to use the tools provided, and be shown a selection of sample rings and techniques to apply to your design to create your ring. It will start with a sketch and I will guide you every step of the way and together we will carve your idea in to a wearable ring!
Within your ticket price you will receive a full demonstration and a solid sterling silver ring ~ however there will be upgrades on the day such as solid gold, plating, engraving and selection of gemstones.
You will leave your wax ring with me on the day and I will transform this into solid metal ring ~ lead times will depend on how many upgrades you decide to go for.
Q&A
~ Do I need to know my ring size?
No, I will size you on the day. If you’re making the ring as a surprise gift for someone you could find out their ring size before the class or bring one of their rings with you.
~When will my ring be ready?
Lead time depends on how many extras you add to your ring ~ i.e gold plating, gemstones etc. add about 3 weeks per upgrade. All rings with no extras will be ready around 3 weeks after the class.
~Do I need to have experience?
You don’t need any experience, this class is for beginners, I’ll be on hand with any questions you have.
~Can I have my ring in solid gold or platinum?
Included in your ticket price is a solid sterling silver ring, however you can upgrade to solid gold or platinum. I will weigh your wax throughout the class and quote you.
~Can I attend by myself?
Of course, a lot of people choose to attend by themselves.
~ What gemstones do you offer?
I offer a wide selection of gemstones which range from £15 to £80. They are a mixture of sizes, shapes & colours. If you have your heart set on a particular gemstone, get in touch beforehand as this is something I can source.
~ Can I bring my own gemstones?
Yes of course!
~Can I carve more than one ring?
Yes, a lot of people carve a second ring, however this depends on how quickly you can carve!
~Where do you host your workshops?
I often host workshops in several different London & Midlands locations, however I’m also available for private hire ~ just get in touch. Find out all the latest information on my classes via my instagram.
~How do I get my ring once it’s finished?
Once the class is finished, I will give you the option to collect your ring from the workshop location you attended, or from my studio in South East London. Alternatively I can post your ring to you via Royal Mail special delivery at an extra charge.
~What do i need to bring?
Just yourself & VIBES!!! If you fancy bringing any items with you that will create interesting textures & shapes (coins or shells etc.) then please do. :)
~What clothes do i wear?
Whatever you fancy! Just know you’ll get covered in wax dust (this will brush off) & you will be sitting down for a while so you need to be comfortable.
